Im in the process of building a lean too kitchen extension.
Im putting in 75mm kingspan in the ceiling between 175mm rafters and then i have to put Tri ios super 10 foil insulation over the top of the rafters. Now i have read that i cannot install recessed lighting with this tri iso super 10 insualtion as it needs to have an air tight seal. I dont want to end up with spot lights on a bar fixed to ceiling as it will look rubbish. Any advice as im sure this must be a common problem.

Any installation of downlights require the light fitting to have adequate ventilation from above.
When you then have the added problem of thermal insulation in the void above the light, then installing downlight and offering them ventilation, is going to compromise the insulation or ventilation requirements. You have chosen a insulation system that is not downlight friendly. The downlight require ventilation and to be encased in a non-combustible enclosure.
Does not sound like an easy combination to comply too. Either forget Triso S10 or downlights!

There is quite a range of low profile, decorative LED surface fittings available. Their often larger size and higher output means you need fewer fittings than you would with downlights. Here is just one such fitting.

I've been thinking about it. Just I need to add this tri iso to achieve the u value for building regs so i have quite a lot of head room so I might counter batten it with 3x2 to give me a void of 75mm and find some down lights that will fit in that void.

So - instead of having surface mounted lights you are going to have a 75mm. surface mounted ceiling just so that you can have holes in it.

User name is very apt.
