Could anyone recommend a good basket strainer? I could buy a simple sink strainer but I think flatmates etc will not use it - I will have more success replacing existing waste with a basket strainer. Could anyone recommend a good basket strainer? It's a stainless steel kitchen sink, like picture from here:

except my measurements are 45mm and 85mm

A basket strainer has it's own dedicated cut out, with a rim size of (I think)
115mm.
They have a 1 1/2" diameter outlet.
It's most unlikely for your existing overflow to be solvent welded - more like just a tight push fit.

They are a universal size, and fit sinks with the appropriate size hole......not yours, I'm afraid.
Generalising though, on a 1 1/2 bowl sink, the strainer fits the 1/2 bowl, not the main one.
Of course there are exceptions.....sinks meant to utilise a waste disposal unit have the same size hole as the strainer.

ok thanks for the help, that's a shame... I don't want to change sink so will just get a insert strainer.
