I have just renovated an old mangle and am preparing to paint it. Originally it was to be black and gold but now people are trying to persuade me to keep the red and black.

The only problem is the red is red oxide as I was going to cover it with Wilko metallic gold. I cannot leave the red oxide so what type of paint can I cover it with ? Any paint suitable for metal, hammerite , both or neither.

Also to save me searching dozens of paint charts any idea of a satin colour near to red oxide ?

Thanks

I don't like hammerite. It is very difficult if you want to repaint.

An ordinary oil-based gloss paint system is pretty dependable and durable.

Tractor Paint can be used for machinery, but AFAIK is not sold in small amounts.

See if you like RAL 3009. Guess what it's called.

It should be on the sample charts in a proper paint shop.

Its a minimum of 2.5 L at £57 a tin All I need is about 250ml.

Is there a way of covering the red oxide primer with a clear finish ?

I have done it with wood but never metal or over a metal primer.

More like my prices. Final question - Do the colour ever vary if they are listed as 3009. I know they shouldnt but they do on the colour charts.
Thanks for your help. I reckon I can finish it the way I want now
