I'm laying a new bathroom floor - 25mm wbp on wooden joists - then I will be tiling over. I have all the usual problems - floor height will be raised, joists are not level and not all joists have horizontal top surfaces. I wondered if I can use a circular saw to take up to 5mm off the top of the joists, a tedious task but it would solve the above problems if done right. Would this compromise the strength of the floor to a significant degree or does it sound feasible?
Thanks for any help.

5mm is nowt, but this will be difficult with a circular saw, not to mention slightly dangerous. Use an electric plane if you must.

I would suggest adding loads of extra noggins between the joists and using 18mm instead. Level the noggins to the highest point of the joists and pack out under the lower areas.

Thanks, that's a great idea. How I wish I hadn't bought the 25mm already. Next time I will visit the forum first, then the shop.
