Reform did well. Again.

There are comments around saying "at least Trump is doing things, we need a bit of that."
There are indeed.

There are the Trump things that himself and his PR team put out there - 'the most' 'the best' 'the fastest' 'the greatest' Most of it is a load of ****** and probably worse figures than the previous administration.

Then there are the Trump things that are downright harmful to the US. These are either kept quit or lied about.

The UK needs none of that.

I suppose Fromage looks up to liar Trump and emulates populist bullshítter Johnson, for obvious reasons.

I've read several comments like that in the Mail and Telegraph such as "It may be a disaster, but at least he's trying things".

That is weird logic. But I suppose it speaks to many people's general frustration and unhappiness.

Farage has spent his career influencing politics from the sidelines without any responsibility for delivering

Farage as an MEP never bothered attending fisheries committe
Farage as an MP for Clacton has never bothered to actually do anything for the town
Farage as an elected MP hardly ever turns up to HoC

the lazy inefficient Farage is claiming Reform will be cutting waste and inefficiency…...if they were serious they should sack Farage.

That is partly what the recent Reform row was about. Some think that Nigel just wants to be a provocateur rather than actually take power.

He should have tried his disinfectant suggestion before making it publicly.

No.
The Tories ate themselves and Labour cleaned the plate.
Reform are nibbling at the edges now and will threaten to puke up an unholy detritus for us all to enjoy in four years time unless Keir kan get his akt together and stop the bloody boats.

I would have voted Reform, as a protest vote, but we had no Council election here. Keir has had more than ample opportunity to deal with the boats, and done nothing much effective, at all. People vote on results. Keir has done nothing useful, but in the process upset a lot of voters.

Far rage listens to people’s grievances , articulates them, and sells them back as a sound bite, in return for a vote. He’s the worst possible person to get potholes filled.

Maybe, we will see. Isn't that what all politicians do, listen, make promises, then do nowt? What has Keir done, that he promised?

It's a little odd that

a , the boat arrivals are the biggest issue. Much, much more important things, in my area at least, that need direction and attention.

b, that local councils are the ones chosen by the voters to sort it out

A literal drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of the ills of our country.
Far more pressing things to target resources at.
But, from the point of view of pandering to (some of) the electorate, something to "prioritise"...

Keir has done nothing useful

He's been cutting waste.
Which is useful, imo.

Please could you explain how you think he could’ve dealt with the boats.
You say you would’ve voted Reform…..what do you think they would have done?

Do you think that perhaps you consider it to be a major issue because Reform and Tories have made it a major issue?

In 2023 there was 1 million net migration, around 40,000 people arriving by small boats and an estimated 700,000 visa overstayers.

If immigration is your big concern why are focused on the smallest number?

Nigel Farage said he will bring DOGE style reforms to the UK when he gets power.....well he has some power now with 10 councils.

Interestingly Reform do well in the poorest regions which depend heavily on public services, so if he does an Elon Musk and shut them all down, that's gonna go down well.

"the boats" is a ridiculously puffed up issue.
Would anyone be surprised if Farrage/Trump did what I suggested - or something like it:

Use drones to look for boats on the beaches
Tell the French so it becomes "their fault".
Send out patrol boats to the channel midline to physically stop them coming past half way so they'd have no choice but to turn back.
The politicians would go ape but while they were arguing, people would be losing money so not sending boats.

It would be illegal/unfair/provocative yada yada but popular as hell.

The fact that immigration is something we need, because we need people and it's deflationary, wouldn't get mentioned.

It was a protest vote simple as that
Farage is a quite good communicator imo

The big test will be in 4 years time

Democracy ;)

Plenty of people some in here don’t seem
To like democracy when they don’t like the out come

They are than quite prepared to see democracy pushed aside / trampled all over when it suits them :giggle:

Yes exactly

The trump effect ? Has influenced voting in certain countries

Canada
Australia
Both went one way ( anti trump ?)

The UK seem to be going the other way :giggle:

Starmer had better get a grip on immigration

Because so far despite setting up task forces with turbo charged missions he has made a bit of a pigs ear of it

Incidentally Starmer thinks the British empire was a force for good in the world

It would be OK until we got the blame for some deaths.
