I have just turned my heating back on but my thermostat doesn't seem to be talking to the boiler. I am having to turn the boiler off and on at the system but I can't get it to stop automatically. The thermostat has batteries that are working in it and it is correctly identifying the current temperature. Any help/ideas about what might be wrong and how I could sort it out?

wen ya operate the thermostat is the receiver indicating it has received a signal? if not, find ya instructions out and follow the commissioning procedure..
if ya cant find the instructions post the make/model of the stat/receiver

The boiler is a Worcester 21CDi. The thermostat doesn't seem to have a brand except British Gas (although it is an electric system). There is a red light permanently on under the word signal on the Room Stat on the boiler. I can't remember if this was how it was before. I have looked at an online instruction for the boiler which didn't help. I haven't found an instruction manual for the thermostat.

take the batteries out of the stat. turn the fuse spur off for 5sec's then turn back on. press and hold both button's on ya receiver for around 5secs. put the batteries back in the stat and turn up until there is a demand.. let me know if it works

Had no idea what I was doing but tried to follow your directions and now it works! Thanks so much!
