we have requested building control for removal of chimney in dining room. After lifting the floorboards in floor above we now realise the chimney leads their and we want to remove at on first floor as well. Would the same building control application apply? As it relates to the same chimney.

The key thing in the removal of a chimney breast is supporting the remaining structure above. Have you considered complete removal of the chimney breast & chimney stack and roofing over? Depending upon the situation, and whether the chimney breast provides support to any structural components, there may be nothing to support. Clearly, it's not quite so easy if the chimney stack is shared with a neighbour.

I can't understand how the fact that the chimney went through the bedroom was only discovered when the floorboards were lifted. o_O

Maybe it was a magic chimney? Their next post will be 'OMG we just discovered the chimney goes through the roof!' :)

Ok it's just the chimney breast and not the actual chimney. There is a chimney in front reception(which we are not removing)

Would that cause any issues on the building control wording? As its only the breast? We stayed chimney.

There is a chimney in from reception which we have chose NOT to remove, that is against the neighbours house. The one we are removing is against the house.

This property has a loft extension, this chimney breast we propose to remove does not go through to the loft but, but I wonder if it provides support.

Whether it's just the downstairs chimney breast, or the whole lot, it should not make a difference to your application.
