shocked about the lack of care/thought about children's safety!

A school, with classrooms and children in them?
What safety implications would those be?

There could be sharp pencils left in the classroom or conkers falling from the trees.

I can tell you (as could almost anyone) a school layout without reference to any plans.

Door, corridors, classrooms. Every door has a sign on it, most doors will be glazed.
