hi all, how difficult is it to remove and then refit a double glazed window?

one side opens and the other has an internally beeded fixed panel.

i can see the fixing screws in the upvc frame, but how is th etop and bottom fixed to the brickwork.

the window has an external cill, will this be fixed to the window frame.

cheers

Not really that dificult but why do you want to remove it? If you can’t see any top fixings there probably aren’t any; that’s where the steel/concrete lintel is & the fitters find it difficult to fix into these so they don’t usually bother. Depending on the size of the window, there should be at least one fixing in the bottom, through the cill but, again, sometimes they don’t bother.

Remove the beading & take the glass unit out before you do anything (mark the inside face a with felt tip); remove the screws you can see & then, probably, the only thing holding the frame in place will be the silicone bead/trim around the outside, the plaster/caulk on the inside & the wedge packers they should have used around the frame to hold it in place. Cut all this away & it should come out; but be careful not to use excessive force! The cill is not usually fixed to the frame, apart from the fixings that should have been put in through the frame & the cill & it should lift off once you’ve got all the fixings out. The cill will be bedded either on mortar or, more likely, loads of low modulus silicone sealer which can be difficult to unstick!

Forgot to add that you will need to pull out or cut through the plastic fixing plugs after removing the fixings.

hi, thanks for the info, my missus has ordered some furniture and its too wide for the door!

our door frames are only 29 inches wide and the furniture is 31.

the doors are also upvc.

so it seems easier to remove the window. and then replace it after the furniture has been delivered .

thanks for the advice
