I've contacted 4 roofers to get quotes to fix my leaking roof. 3 never got back to me 1 days he's too busy so I'm going to have to attempt a repair myself.

My felt at the eaves has rotten so I need to fit the felt support trays, my question is how easy is it to 'push' the first row of tiles up, are they nailed?

This is my garage roof but house is identical built in 1987.

Any other tips for fitting the felt support trays would be great

Thanks all!

The 1st course should be mailed. The second course should push up easy enough and this will allow you to pull out the nails and remove the first course.

As above. A great, simple and straightforward answer.

OP, when you have exposed the eaves and fascia why not post pics of your findings?

Are you referring to the main house or the garage, or both? To all the eaves?

Its the house roof but could only find a pic of the garage...same roof style.

From looking into the eaves from in the loft you can see the ends of the deteriorating felt.

Going to attempt this off a ladder. Had a scaffolding quote of £350

Any thoughts on ladders/scaffolding?

Q) Why do experienced roofers use scaffold?
A) Apart from H&S regs requiring you to do so, it's safer and easier off a steady platform.

You are unlikely to be able to push any of the verge tiles up nor will you want to. These will have to be lifted off and will cause some disturbance to the mortar bedding regards say the next two courses above.

Use a tower. Simple and maneuverable.

Never thought of a tower, don't know why. Anyway £80 for a weekend hire I think is great.

I was thinking of removing the guttering and hopefully being able to lift the front of the tiles an inch or so and slide the support tray under.

Remove the 1st row completely and renail, don't try lifting them as you will pull the nails and run the risk of breaking tiles.
