Hello
I would like to remove a central wall in a double garage and put a lintel/rsj in its place. do i need to involve buildings control, structural engineers etc or can i just do it my self. The wall is only supporting the garage roof itself. Or, would it be less hassle and not much more expensive to ask a builder to do it
cheers

If you know what to do, then there is no reason why you should not just get on with it

Structural alterations can be subject to a building regulation application. If in doubt, ask (your LABC).

Is this a detached garage and is the floor area under 30m^2?
If yes to both then the building is exempt from building regs and you can do as you please without worrying about building regs (but please make sure you know what you are doing otherwise the roof may collapse on you and kill you!)
