I have recently removed a stud wall to open out 2 rooms, within the wall were a light switch on each side and a socket on one side, I have changed the light switch to a double switch from existing cables.

I do not need the plug socket and so need to do something with the cables.

My initial plan was to just join them using 30amp terminal blocks wrapped in insulating tape. However I have found that I have a spare earth wire seperate from the of earth within the main cables, I havent seem this anywhere else in the house what is this likely to be and has anyone some advice.

Hope this makes sense.

Is it somewhere near the bathroom?

Best thing is to connect the earth to all the other earths.

Insulating tape is not the right answer. Use a wall box with a blanking plate.

Its below where the bathroom is, iwas just going to wrap once it was connected in the terminal box then leave it as so in the ceiling space, can I just leave the wall box loose in the ceiling space or do I have to fix it to a joist?

thanks for the speedy reply

it has to be somewhere accesable so it can be inspected / tightened. john D's reccomendation it the simplest way in your situation (or just leave a socket in place even tho you arent going to use it?) or use proper crimps and ratchet crimpers and heatshrink after (for double insulation).

It may well be a source of Supplementary Equipotential Bonding for the bathroom, so leave the earth wire connected to all the others.

Hi,

I hadnt considered leaving the socket attached is this a viable option to leave it attached and in the ceiling space?
