Hi,

I have a Renault Megane 1997, I've got a problem starting it, takes ages to start and sometimes won't start at all. I got the AA out and they said it is the coil.

Has anybody else had any similar problems? Don't want to start throwing loads of money fitting the wrong parts.

Regards
Paul

We sell on average 5 a week to the AA. Yes it's a comon problem. Don't buy from a main dealer. Go to a factor like us.

GFS Carparts are good, as they specialise in German, French and Swedish parts- Hence- GFS!

Renault say they have no problem now with coils as there so called bad batch has now been changed either by the main dealer or by the AA,At one time renault were advising the AA to change all 4 coils if one was found to be faulty, now this policy has changed and they advise only to change the 1 faulty coil and tell the members to go to dealer to have others checked.I personally think that renault will continue to have these coil problems as many times if 1 coil goes down you will more likely have problems with the other coils in the near future.

Renault do have a problem with the coils on their cars, If you haven't changed it yet it's best to take the car to the main dealer they may change it FOC as a goodwill gesture (if car is not under warranty) if not, phone Renault customer care (0800 0723372) and complain to them, again they may offer a contribution towards the repair.
If you have changed it already, phone Renault customer care explaining that you was stuck, it needed doing asap so the local garage/AA replaced it etc, they will probably give you a reference number for the call and tell you to write a letter in to their head office at Rickmansworth (sorry don't have full address to hand) explaining the problem, they will probably reimburse you the money spent out.

Mine wont start at all, the ignition lights come on, but it wont spin over, not even on a bump, when the ignition is on i get a clicking noise from the passenger side fuse box under the bonnet.....any ideas?

many thanks

I'd try gsf first as they specialise in german, sweedish and french, hence gsf.

Think you've been watching too many tv commercials for sofa's

I have had 3 coils replaced on my Megane in the last 2 years. Today I have a starting problem, I'll change the 4th!

Let's face it Renault are the Rover of the new century.

Hi, I have been having this same problem and I have taken it to the workshop 3 time and each mechanic will suggest his solution and would change something on the car which mean I have to pay for the service but still the problem exist. Please I want to know if the coil is the main problem

hi. the coils on renaults are usaully the main problems. all through the range of renaults there bad. starting form the clio and onwards. i replaced 1 every 8000 miles on my friends renault. which was bought new from renault at a cost. ive never had any french cars, as parts are expensive and usaully rubbish to fix. but yes the coil will be the problem

If it won't turn over and all you get is a clicking noise, then that points to a flat battery, remove battery charge it up then refit, car should then restart.
