We have been asked to price for some work at a nearby leisure centre, which includes the repair to concrete steps, badly spalled.

What's the best type of repair

How about some sort of new layer for the whole tread

Or edge protection for the nosings

Any ideas please

thanks !

if the public intend using the steps - BE CAREFUL.

anything you do to them makes you liable.

that said, is there room on the top tread for a re-clad in brick-on-edge maybe?

it would mean an extra 110mm (minimum) on top of the final tread.

to be honest mate i would walk away from the job. I dont want to sound nasty  but if you need to ask for help of a forum for a public walkway then you must not be confident in the work you plan to carry out! I really would not get involved unless you REALY know what your doing in a public place. Sorry my friend

wbmkk - epoxy concrete/repair mortar might be the answer ... some of these products are specifically designed for this situation. Google to find a supplier in your area. However, I'm with the other guys on this one ... unless you've got insurance/experience ... walk away. Just imagine somebody taking a tumble on your repaired step ... H&S Gestapo, solicitors, damages, name in papers, tax-man alerted, etc, etc.
