Perhaps you mean "Galvanised iron" - as opposed to Aluminium, or Plastic.

Of course, the main problem with "plastic" guttering in Australia is that it can be UV sensitive. (Maybe that is not such a problem in the UK.)

Cast iron was used - In the early 70's I did some ( as an apprentice ) cut with a hacksaw and drilled the holes for the gutter bolts with a hand drill, made the joints with red lead putty and the holes for the downpipe brackets with a rawlplug tool , then wood plug and pipe nail through the fixing hole in the "ears" on the pipe. Plastic gutter was usually grey then - did a house in my village around the same time and it was only changed for black about 6 years ago ( probably for aesthetic reasons) They don't know they're born nowadays - grinders and driver/drills all cordless- UV not so bad on grey ( fades to white ) as black and brown.

150 x 100 ogee is pretty expensive, like wise 100 mm downpipes and various bends and hoppers.. soon mounts up

We did one a a few years ago on a huge listed property near Guildford total gutter was 270 mtr plus shed loads of bays and dormers..
The building gutters had been changed about five years prior to black plastic ogee... Listed buildings were not happy.. It had to come down
