Replace Flat roof

We want to replace our flat garage roof with a proper pitched roof. Can the roof be at any angle or are there certain guide lines? The reason I ask is that it is joined onto our house and there is a window about 3 feet above the roof which we would want to keep

17 deg is as low as you realistically should go, though you can form a leaded trough box around the window allowing you to take the roof up higher. don't forget planning permission!

what do you mean by a leaded trough box

if you want take the roof up beyond the window and still see out, then the roof has to stop each side of the window , creating a small flat roof area, about 150 mm below the window sill, this can either be lead or three layer felt.
