Replace Lump Hammer Shaft.

I am trying to fit a new shaft to my old Lump Hammer.

What can I use to pare it down a bit? Its too fat to fit in the hammer head.

I don't have a Grinder, Sander or Power Saw though.

I thought of that just a after I posted lol but I don't have one.. I also only have only have basic kitchen knives.
I will have to order a plane i suppose lol.

Just a thought can you get a grinder attachment for a Dewalt Cordless drill? or for a Black and Decker mains drill?

Its a old hammer that was my dad's so I would like to reuse it again as it worked great!

Yes and I was told you need to cut a slot. Is this 100% correct? as others have said no.

You need to cut a slot, in-line with the head, and keep some of the timber back, to make into a wedge. Hammered in tight - That then grips head, you trim the wedge, then hammer steel wedges in at right angles to the wooden wedge. The end result, swells the timber tight, at the very end, so the head cannot come off in use.

That's what I thought thanks. I also got a shaft for a Chipping Hammer. They both come with 1 metal wedge. The chipping hammer seems fine though with just the one metal wedge. But its not as heavy as the Lump.

It’s probably worth changing the head at the same time, to ensure longevity of the original tool
