I am going to put in a floating engineered floor in my three bedrooms which are located on the 1st floor.

My problem is the under floor, currently carpeted, which is in good shape but not even enough for a floating floor. The under floor is tongued and grooved 18 mm pine floor boards.

I’m thinking of removing the under floor completely and replacing it with 18mm sheets of plywood or chipboard. It will be a bit of work removing the floor and also quite expensive to replace it with the sheets.

Would chipboard be suitable or it is too weak?

Please let me know if this is the way to do it or if you have any better suggestions?

Also where can I get a good deal on sheet material?

Thanks,
Aryl.

If you are replacing your floorboards you best use plywood, not chipboard.
