I have one of those chrome bath plugs (46mm across the chrome head) with adjustable length spindle. It operates rotating the twist mechanism that's part of the overflow. These designs are hopeless and always fail.
Access is a bugger and I've tried the suggestions on YouTube insofar as not having to remove the bath panel. Is there a drop in replacement with a handle on the plug than I can use instead? I'm struggling to find something to replace it with that will fit. Thank you. :-)

I do use a mini suction cup (GU10 bulb) at the moment and a plastic filter to catch hair. Hoping to replace with a design that has a handle if at all possible...?

1. You could use an old fashioned plug on a chain. You obviously need a plug which will fit the waste. It is unlikely that your bath will have a ring to secure the free end of the chain, so you might have to improvise by something like a rubber sucker stuck to the wall.
2. I'm surprised you find the twist mechanism poor. I've had one for the past 14 years with no difficulty at all in either operating or sealing. Mind you, it does get operated every day to ensure the steel cable which run from the twist mechanism to the pop up mechansm doesn't rust solid.
3. If you want something more sophisticated than the plug on a chain you will almost certainly need to change the waste fitting, which means removing the bath panel. I di read on here recently that there is a "click clack" type which can be fitted from the top. However, I've no experience of it and anyway find the click clack wastes rarely last more than a year.
