Hi, am thinking of replacing an extremely creaky floor (suspect chipboard not on joists) as this will be a kids bedroom and is above living room i was thinking of lifting floor, rejoisting around sides and putting some kind of acoustic/soundproof insulation in.
Anyone have any experience of this? House is 6 years old, standard build, am unsure of space under floor as yet.

If anyone has advice/tips on the flooring/joist job and especially the insulation it would be greatly appreciated.

No rush as this is a plan for the new year.

cheers

While you're at it lay some rockwool in between the floor joists and whatever you do don't lay a laminate floor. Underlay and carpet all the way.

Thabks for the info, haven't looked at types of insulation yet, is there a specific type of rockwool with soundproofing ability?

cheers

There are different types of rockwool, but tbh they all do pretty much the same job, there's not a lot in it. Make sure it's rockwool though as it's nice and dense compared to normal fluffy loft insulation. Knauf do one also called rocksilk, again it will do the job.
