Replacing balustrades

Got some pretty naff banisters. I had an idea of keeping the newel post and handrail and putting something like chrome poles in instead.

Question is will that hold everything well enough and maintain it's integrity if its glued top and bottom.

You'll need a glue that works with metal and wood. Snug holes and don't space them t6o far apart.
Does it have to be metal poles?
 
You would have to replace the infill section top and bottom with new drilled to dimensions of metal poles , you will need more than existing to maintain the correct spacing. (Less than 100mm gap).
