Hi

I am replacing the floorboards on the landing in my house due to many of them being in bad shape and the rather wide gaps between some of them.

Do I need to remove the skirting boards around the landing or could I get away with removing the old one and pushing the new one under the skirting?

If you go down the route of removing skirtings you're in danger of creating a much bigger job in terms of messed up decoration. Whether you can juggle the new boards under the skirting, well only you will know that. Depends how much play there is when you replace the boards and which direction they run - parallel or right angles to the skirting you are trying to get under. Trial and error it seems to me.
