Hi all,

Within my consumer unit I currently have a B6 MCB wired to a 3A fused facia, this is supplying power to my home alarm which I no longer use/need. My question is can I replace the fused facia for a single socket or will I also need to change the MCB?

Thanks in advance!

You can replace it with a socket, but you can't plug anything that needs more than 6A into it.

One day someone will, so best to change the MCB and the feed cable as well.
It would only avoid (slight) 'inconvenience' on any rare occasions when that may happen. Safety-wise, there really isn't an issue. An appropriate label on the socket would make the occurrence even rarer, perhaps 'never happening'.

Kind Regards, John
