Hello

I want to replace my steel mains pipe with MDPE. The stop cock is right on my boundary and is accessible by digging from my driveway. I would like to connect the pipe myself as severn trent have quoted a lot of money for something that looks like an hours work.

Any advice on how the mains connection is made would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I cannot guess how your pipe is connected as we see very few steel mains pipes in London! You will probably have to dig and look!

How anything can take just one hour when water pipes are 750mm minimum deep and digging is hard work then I dont know.

You have not said the length.

I wouls recommend you change your stopcock if you can turn off the supply in the street as otherwise it will be another old part to fail.

Use at least a 25mm pipe and possibly a 32 if its very long to get the maximum flow rate.

Hi Tony, Thanks for the reply.

My apologies I meant the connection should take about an hour not including digging.

The length of steel pipe to be replaced is approx 30ft. Just before the pipe reaches the water co stop cock it is joined to 25mm mdpe which then goes to the stop cock. I have posted pictures to my album.

I think your suggestion was correct...............dig and find out.

Thanks again for your reply

Hi bob
It's a long time ago one but how did you get on with replacing your steel mains pipe?

We now in same position with Severn Trent suggesting it will be ten weeks before they can do it!
