I was replacing a socket outlet on a ring circuit and noticed the kitchen ring has been connected together with connector blocks in the backbox.

I guess its not ideal.
I can't see it being particulally dangerous, it is accessible.

I would be interested in your thoughts on this.

It's what you'd expect to see if the ring had been extended from that point - new cable from the socket running off to new socket(s), eventually a cable returning to be joined to one of the old ones.

Bit of a puzzle though why only one of the new cables is brown/blue - I wonder if before the ring extension there had been a spur from that socket?

Anyway, provided the choc-block is the right size, and the screws are tight, and nothing gets crushed it's OK.

OK that is apart from the cpc not having been extended to keep it a ring - you should sort that out.

Does it all test out OK for continuity and ring topology?

As for the duff lug, you could try re-threading for an M4, failing that you could f*rt around trying to replace it if it's the movable one, or using extension pieces and drilling/plugging the wall, but it looks like you should be able to chop the box out and replace it without too much damage and hassle...

I think the CPC's for the connector blocked circuit was connected via the earth screw for the back box. Will find out more today.

if its a galvanised back box then get a re-threader.
