I am building a summer house and have a question regarding the joist noggins.

My span in 3 meters across, I am planning on using 6 X 2 C24 joists. However I am considering using 4 X 2 for the noggins. Two reasons why I want to do that. Firstly I have spare 4 X 2 and second I am insulating between the roof joists. By using smaller noggins, I wouldn't have to cut the insulation and there will me less thermal bridging.

Question is, would smaller noggins weaken the roof structure. The joists will be installed at 400 centers.

The idea of noggins or strutting is that they are the same depth as the joists.
