Our original combi drill model R18PD3 has expired due to too many drops!

Its still showing as available on the Ryobi site but along side what appears to be its successor the RPD18 which is surprisingly £9 cheaper ?

That kind of makes us think the newer model might not be as good, yet on the Ryobi compare list they seem very similar.

Does anyone have know why the price difference and if the newer model is any better ?

On the Ryobi website, its available on offer for £99 with battery and charger, add this to your basket then just choose your free tool.

Features like a metal chuck, rpm’s and torque can mark the difference. The best Ryobi currently manufactured is called a Makita.

It doesn't look from your pic as though the batteries are the same for each model so you would need batteries for the new one which may be where the price difference is made up by Ryobi.

Ryobi batteries are all interchangeable from way back: the old nickel-cads still fit the new stuff (and vice versa), you just need to make sure you have the right charger.

Ryobi always seem to have deals on: I have 4 combi drills from initially changing over to Lithium, adding batteries and finally replacing a missing batterry when in each case a set was cheaper than just the batteries. I do like the smaller batteries too: so much easier on the wrist.

indeed all ryobi batteries fit all tools but there is a slight difference with the newer rb 1840/1850x and bigger amps [Ryobi/18v/5ah] batteries if you look at the back off the stem there are 2 further contact allowing higher powerdraw for selective tools like the belt sander that will still work fully with any battery but slightl less umph at the top end
the smaller 2/2.5a rb batts dont have the extra tabs
