Is this a new system or an old one that you are working on?

brown wires to zone valves control motor opening, grey wire is perm live to microswitch, orange from valve is switched live to boiler/pump.

From ch on, on programmer should go to 4 on terminal block, then this to live in on room stat. switched live on room stat then goes back to 5 on term block, which is connected to brown on zone valve.

Oooh, that can be all kinds of things!

If it used to work but has recently stopped and nothing has been messed with then it could be the programmer or (more likely) the thermostat not opening the circuit correctly, these can generally be tested with a continuity tester.
If the system is knocking on a bit, then it could be the motor in the zone valve sticking.
Could possibly be something wrong with the board in the boiler, but generally with them, when one thing goes awry, the rest does.

Or, if you've been playing with it, you've put something back wrong!

sorted problem basically when i took off the 10 way connector cover off thought spaghetti junction !!! so ripped all out to start again.
This was a new installation s plan system where several sparks have all been adding their 10 penny worth so completely rewired as per s plan drawing supplied with the arriston boiler.
Everything seemed fine, went to fire up boiler, powered up but motorised valves not functioning?
Noticed that the drawing showed a 2 core connection from TA1 ? with a link removed to both the orange and grey connections on the 10 way block which then went to both dhw and c/h motorised valves.phoned up tech help line very useful by the way and they explained where TA1 was on the boiler pcb AND WHAT ITS FUNCTION WAS ON AN unvented SYSTEM INSTALLATION,so ran cable and hey presto one satisfied customer.thanks to all for suggestions.
