Safe Mode - getting out of

My father has got his computer into safe mode, how does he get out of it . Running on XP.

reeboot it? (thats what i did on win 98), the question is why did it go into safe mode

When starting up, hit F8 (?) as early as possible to come into 'safe-mode' menu and switch back to normal mode.
