Sailing

Just done a free lesson with the RYA on that. OMG it is sort of confusing. dead reckoning, water track, Leeway, beam, my head is spinning, I sort of got it then a question was asked to plot a position given the leeway, my mind suddenly drew a blanc.
Don't worry about leeway (the affect of the wind on your course) deviation (the effect of local magnetic fields/metal objects on your compass) and variation the difference between true and magnetic north. You can start with a true heading and just focus on the affect of the tide. Once you get the hang of that, you can start adding in the proper conversion from True to Magnetic and back etc.

For dayskipper I think they are happy for you to guess and add 5 or 10 degrees if on beam for leeway..

I am thinking the online section or portion of the course should be good for the theory then concentrate purely on the practical sailing side without the pressure of having to do the theory.
Yeah you need to pass the theory before doing the practical otherwise it will be much harder, when they ask you to put into practice what you have learned - which will be nothing :D

Please do not spoil and get this thread locked. This thread is going to be important to me, there is no reason for you to come onto it to start off your stupid accusations and your head filled with nothing but insults. Nobody on this thread needs you on here, unless of course you have some input.
Assuming you're talking to the person you quoted, you're addressing the right person.
Perhaps you'd care to bear your comments in future when you spoil sensible debates.

GPS works fine until the system crashes or the power goes off. That’s why its important to understand the basics of navigation and keep the chart up to date.

Mate of mine used to get to France by following the ferry, watching those going the other way to see if he was on course! As far as I know he never got lost although I havent seen him in a while

not unless you are doing Yachtmaster Ocean. When I use one it tales me about 2 hours to see where I was. The iPhone tells me instantly
That kind of makes sense I suppose, although I am a surprised that they don't make it mandatory for all who are out at sea.
