Salus 100 vs the 101 volt free roomstat

I'm installing a WB combi with a Salus 300 timer and a 101 roomstat. But what does volt free mean? can I assume the thing is battery powered? whereas the Salus 100 actually needs 230volts and therefore a neutral is required? or am I barking up the wrong tree?
