i'm gonna sand my dining room floor (approx 2.4mx3.6m) would it be alright to do this with a normal sander rather than hiring a floor sander

you can do it with a normal belt sander...... BUT (there's always a but!)

1. it'll be very dusty
2. you'll def. need knee pads
3. it'll take ages.....and then a bit longer....
4. if you do it once.... you'll never do it again (with a belt sander.... i burnt out two!.... ok the room was bigger but it would have been easier,a lot less time consuming and prob. cheaper to hire!)

The orbit or belt sander will get hot and possibly overheat over a period of time & your hand will feel a bit numb due to the vibration. A floor belt sander would cope better and more comfortable.

Plus will show less 'markings'. Better use a proper floor sander, because any mistakes, markings, circle scratches will show after applying the finish.
