Sattelite Dish

So basically sky+ doesn't work on the freestat channels anyway? It only works on the movies and sports packages anyway, is that correct?

The LNB is the bit that sits at the focus of the dish. It is a low noise amplifier and frequency shifter.

A LNB output can be in on of four different modes (two frequency bands and two polarisations) so you can't just split the signal for multiple tuners like you can with terrestrial and cable signals (for really big installations you can use a quad LNB with one output in each mode and then some special equipment to dynamically link receivers to LNB outputs but this equipment is not common or cheap).

So because a sky+ box has two tuners it requires two LNB outputs connected through two runs of sat grade coax to two inputs on the box.
