Hi. Can anyone tell me how to safely open a Saxby ET60RT-R halogen transformer? It appears to be an almost sealed unit with no screws. I tried sliding off the bottom panel but it's not budging. I tried prising it open but it cracked slightly at the end where the wires enter.

Oh flip. I've 12 of these to replace with LED drivers. Looks like I'll have to snip the wires on every single one

Why snip the wires?
The listings say they only came with short wires, so presumably there is a junction box, or similar to connect to the mains, and the bulbs?

If the new drivers have terminals, then yes, isolate power and snip the 2 core as long as possible , restrip and terminate into your new units
Thank you. I think this is the sensible option rather than crack open each unit. Will take longer but probably safer too.

I can't access the junction box in the ceiling void.
That does seem odd, as others said, the prewired units are rarely longer than 300mm and the connections to the house wiring are usually close by in the void and acccesable, I would still be tempted to inspect that connection if possible as a majority of times it is substandard and exposed live connecter blocks are often found.

Why not just remove them and replace your 12v halogens with 240v LEDs

Not sure how I can do this. I have no access to the ceiling voids other than through the holes for the downlights. I think all the wiring was done before the ceilings went up.
