Nothing happens, 5 peeps of one sound then goes into another tone. just frozen....

Post picture of the back of the keypad, take off keypad and try it on a short lead at the control panel.

Is it a 9651 or a 9651PD? I've had trouble with the early versions of the PD "going slow". The full power down, suggested by Europlex, clears it for a while but it can come back. The only solution that we found was to replace it.

From the photo, it looks like your keypad is not communicating with the panel. Check the bus...

Thank you for your words of advice, bottom line is re jig all wiring etc, full power off and seems tickety boo......
