scrap copper pipes

I got £2.80/Kg last Saturday. Copper B/E.

Braziery was the same. (copper HE)

This is why some of us collect every little bit & throw it down the cellar, so eventually we will have enough for a decent weigh in.

i went to the scrap dealer today...same one i always go to..when i rang round years ago he gave the best price...he might be the worse payer now !! ...i did not check

but got £170 for braziery (that what he calls it..mixed copper and brass) weighing in at 68kg which works out at 2500£ a tonne for braziery...clean copper would be even better money

I find the less you take in the more you get. Keeps them hungry

As an aside does anyone know roughly how much you get for an old ,say, Ideal E Type or a Potterton diplomat around the 80,000 BTU mark. Approx the three man lift jobs?

I think you'll find your plumber will be expecting to take the scrap, and it won't do relations with him any good if you claim it. I know it's technically yours but it's a tough world out there at the moment, certainly where I am it's very quiet and we need all the help we can get to put food on the table...

got to admit if i did a job and the customer wanted the scrap i would not be happy. As for old boilers me and my mate took a full van of 5 back boilers and around 12 rads in and got £40 not worth it to be honest. 7 cylinders and 3 50 gallon tanks of copper was £820 not sure how much we got per tonne though , ive never bothered checking

they always expect you to take everything else so normally id expect to take the copper as well. Do a lot of people expect you to leave the copper then? or do you leave everything for them to dump? Interesting to see peoples answer as a skip is now over £150 and most tips wont let you dump there.

i never take any boilers, rads, baths, basins etc as i don't hold a waste carriers licence. and i always stat in my terms or any quotes i don't remove any waste.
it down to them to sort a skip or get rid off themselves.

one of the companys i sub to stat we are not to remove any scrap as its their property and its classed as theft.

I either leave it all or take it all, the copper usually covers the waste collection cost from my house.

We pool it and take it over when we have a couple of trannies full, but other week my boy helped for the day so i said he could have the scrap.
42BY 18 plain cylinder and half a3 bed sytem rip out he got £120 which is not bad its not that long ago it was£8 a cylinder.
Done one last week that had an 18m 22mm gas run in a loft .Pipe perfetly straight, well that has gone straight on the van to be used again.

scrapping very little at the moment. keeping all lengths greater than 8 inch. keeping nice bends the lot. copper aint getting any cheaper. keeping and cleaning up all brass fittings and never take a leak free cylinder in for scrap.

here in rochdale scrappys are paying 2.90/ 3.00 per kilo for mixed copper/ brass. the last full install i finished ( this week) i had only a bucket of scrap tube and a carrier bag of fittings . i saved/ recycled the rest.

it has to be worth more to me than shelling out close to 60 and 115 for bundles of 15 and 22 respectively.. also stopped using yorkshire fittings in all but the hardest to get to joints

15mm copper £40 + vat
22mm £80 +vat at b&q

Plus if you have their discount card get more off.

I know the quality can be a bit poor for bends.

Have managed to get grahams down to £43+vat for 15mm bundle and £85+vat for 22mm
