sealing kitchen sink before fitting taps

Hi All

I'm fitting a new kitchen sink on anew worktop. After cutting the hole for the sink, to i need to seal the worktop where the cut is made? a mate said he seen a builder varnish the cut end on a kitchen top before fitting the sink, is this necessary?

I would varnish the cut out, better safe than sorry.
 
Varnish , undecoat , any old oil based paint ;) How`s it going Naz - have you been busy ?

I've seen kitchen fitters smearing clear silicone on bare wood before.
 
I recently re-jigged my kitchen. On a couple of cuts I applied clear silicon before fitting the aluminium end and joint strips.
It couldn't hurt.
