I have seen several posts indicating this shouldn't be left in longer than 3 hours with an aluminium HE, and others saying it is ok. The bottle says it is ok for aluminium so am I right in thinking I am safe to chuck a bottle in tomorrow evening and run it overnight before flushing through the day after?

well I wouldnt have mentioned it otherwise :D

I *think* my boiler has an aluminium HE, it is a Vokera Compact about 10yr old and when it was open it looked like aluminium to me.

I think the formulation of X800 was changed fairly recently as Sentinel say that it is suitable for all metals including aluminium.

It's a copper HE on the Standard efficiency. It's just coated. Why do you think it's needs doing?

What are you hoping to achieve with the X800 ?

I dont know the history of the system as I only moved in a year ago, but I do know we have one very rusty radiator in need of replacing and another that has a blocked feed pipe. I want to make sure the system is in a reasonable condition, replace that rusty rad and then add inhibitor to protect the internals.

You should be replacing the rusty rad before ant treatment.

Is it rusty on the outside or the inside?

Tony

ok, I wondered about replacing the rad first in case any treatment put the final nail in the coffin! It is rusty in several places on the outside, the most worrying bit is the plug at the top is very corroded and doing a slow drip.

You are wasting your chemical if using it to deal with corrosion on something to be replaced!
