Service Fuses.

Is there any reason that the lower half of TN-S Service Fuse Holders are filled with an oily tar like compound, whilst TN-C-S Service fuse holders are always left dry/empty?

Just intrigued me!

It is nothing to do with the type of cutout, it is merely to do with age.

Filling the cutout with tar is just an old way of doing things. I'm sure one of the DNO posters on here will be able give you a bit more information

I presume this was done to keep damp out of the cable, this is not such an issue with modern cable types.

I would guess that if they want to put lead and paper cable to a modern cutout they have some kind of sealing kit to keep the damp out.

They use something that looks similar to pyro compound or mastic compound. Not sure exactly what it is though
