Thanks for everyones advice yesterday! so how do i fit a service valve?

turn off water
cut pipe
fit valve and tighten
turn water on
cut pipe
fit valve and tighten
turn water on
thanks kev so how does the vavle connect to the pipe is it self tapping? 
if i have asked a stupid question you must excuse me im a complete novice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
compression fitting just tighten it on
