I'm replacing the roof on a "sun room" but it's nearly flat 5%. I'm not using firrings, the ceiling will slope as it did. The thing is, cutting birdsmouths that shallow is fiddly as it's barely even the kerf of the saw blade.

Can I use shims instead? If so can I buy them and are they angled?

Cheers,
Carl.

Won't all the downward force be applied to the edge of the plate though? If I leave them barely in contact with it?

If you are that worried run yer planer along the edge of the plate to give you the cant.

i'd probably fix them flat and use a firring..but fixed to the plate as nose sujest would be fine. use a packer if it helps you sleep..

cheers noseall.

datarebal i would too but i'm keeping it the same as the roof continues from the attached garage where the little bit extra height makes a difference.

but i thought you said the difference was thinkness of a saw blade...? not much to lose in headroom is it.
