Where the rounded edge of the bath meets the wall it forms a trough . I guess my options are fill it with tile adhesive or with silicone. but which?

Quality silicone for sure......are you going to add 1/4 round tiles also, to cast the water away from the trough?

Thanks, good suggestion (¼" round tiles). I will have to see if they are available though as I am using 2" square stone tiles (tumbled texture). I didn't see them displayed with the tiles.

Whilst I'm on the subject ; those tiles will need sealing after. I have been told to use a silicone based impermeable sealer, would you agree? can I use any old thing, or would you recommend any particular brands?

I'd take the advice from a firm such as Ceramic Tile Distributors - they will advise on the adhesive......which will be silicone based. Often enough, when you buy 1/4 rounds, the adhesive is included.

Chase bath to wall and silicon, no trough, no ugly quad tiles required.
After tiling seal again, two row of silicon are better than one.
