I remember plenty of incidents of ordinary people being told they can't wear a cross into work for fear of upsetting our bacon loving friends.
So why should she be allowed to wear a hijab on the national news in a supposedly Christian country. What's the difference?

I heard it explained as; Christianity does not require people to wear any form of jewellery.

The way women dress is dictated by the Koran.

Except, apparently the Koran says no such thing...

Its more of a H & S rule in certain jobs not to wear a neck chain or rings, nothing to do with upsetting religion,
If the hijab could cause an accident in a job the same H & S rules would apply.

There are plenty of other female presenters currently on TV that may or may not hold strong religious beliefs, but if they don’t parade it, I’m not bothered.
As EFLI remarks, perhaps you also take offence at the vicar's dog-collar, the Archbishops robes, the Nun's habit, etc.
No doubt you object to the Sally Army collecting in Pubs at Christmas? Or the choir boys on TV?

Are all these people employed by Channel 4 to read the news?

BTW, the point has been made that Channel 4 would not have dared to send her to Nice dressed like that.

The Reasons

Islam says that both men and women should dress with modesty. These are words from God in the Holy Quran:”

The thing is there are no words from any God!

Mere mortals in the name of religion have dreamt up all the words from any perceived god.

The sooner all these religious fanatics regardless of their faith come to realise this the sooner we will have some harmony in this world never mind the next world.

For clarity, I am not just talking about Islam here.

This is interesting.

So, people are worried about the woman wearing "The Hijab".
Perhaps they should stop using Arabic words, then, as it seems to frighten them.

It's a headscarf. FFS. That's what she likes to wear.

I wonder if, when it's windy, Angela Merkel puts on - wait for it - "The Kopftuch".

Well, that wasn't the original question as can be seen by the thread title.

However, the answer to your question would be, yes, wouldn't it?
If you were sent to Nice, would you wear a shirt?

It is still a very good question and deserves a rational answer.

I very much doubt it, after all, Channel 4 have a Duty of Care regarding their employees.

If they had sent her to Nice wearing the hijab, they would have been putting her life in danger.

If you were sent to Nice, would you wear a shirt?

It would depend on what message that shirt conveyed.

I gave you one.

That wasn't what you asked -

but as they didn't, which some seem to be complaining about, it doesn't really apply.

If you were sent to Nice, would you wear a shirt?
It would depend on what message that shirt conveyed.
You obviously think her headscarf conveys a message but does it?
I thought it had been established that it is not compulsory by her religion and the emotive name (THE hijab - not even A hijab) actually means nothing other than headscarf and only sounds evocative because it is foreign.

If it is what she always wears (like you and a shirt if on television) and she was given the job then that is what she wears.
