Bathroom will have a bath with an incorporated shower

Some of the wall in the bath/shower area is plasterboard.

However the majority is breeze block which has been plastered over

Does the masonry area need to be tanked prior to tiling?

no. providing you use the correct adhesive and grout. pref not the ready mixed junk from B&q .

Okay, we'll tank the plasterboard area

I'm using grout and rapid set flexible adhesive from mapei

Tanking kit is from mapei too

rapid set really is rapid set this time of year, bear that in mind when your mixing .....small amounts(y)

Dont use any kind of plasterboard on wet walls - if you have p/b on wet walls then remove the p/board and replace with backerboard.
Tanking is not necessary but it would pay you to post a couple of pics showing the condition of the masonry wall surfaces?
