hi guys, i have just bought a shower fan/light (240 v timer fan 12v light) and need to know the laws about fitting it. they are;
1. in the instructions there is no mention of an isolator switch needed. do i need one or will it be ok to come off the bathroom light?
2. if i get an electrician to fit it do i need to let anyone know the work has been done?
3. if i have to let "anyone" know the work has been done how much will it cost(i have heard it could be 100 quid)
4. how much should i expect to pay to have the unit wired up(i have done all the fitting but my missus stopped me doing the wiring because someone told her a few things about the law but they couldent be sure.
i have looked on the site and others but im still confused, any answers would be greatly apreaciated. thanks in advance

Does it just take a single live connection, or does it have permanent and switched lives?

If you use a registered electrician he will do the notification, and it won't cost you anything (i.e. it's a few quid, so unless he's making a childish point it'll just be wrapped into his charges)

Can't say. Get a few quotes - ask for recommendations from friends & family - usual stuff. Electricians here might be able to give you a ball-park...

hi there thanks for the reply, it has both permanent and switched live, so i guess it needs an isolator for the permanent live is this correct

It needs a 3 pole isolator to isolate the supply to the live, switch live and neutral. Does it also mention in the instructions a fuse size? Also, re the law this is notifiable work if you live in England or Wales so your best bet is follow bans link above for a registered electrician.
