SHOWER LIGHT UNSAFE?

Hello there,

Our shower cubicle at home has a single switch which turns on the ceiling light and extractor fan at the same time. The ceiling light has recently developed a fault where it will flicker and eventually stay on or more often tha not, just go off.

Before I start taking things apart, can anyone tell me if this is just a simple case of bulb replacement or does it sound like a wiring fault. I presume the shower/water are not connected to the light ??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My moneys on the switch. I suppose it could be a fault with the wiring, is your fan timed? The light should be fed from the lighting circuit and supplementary bonded to the shower, water pipes etc with green/yellow 4mm wire only. This should be the only connection between the water pipes, the shower and the light.

Sounds like a loose connection. It is unlikely to be the lamp, as when these fail they go out, and stay out.

I too would check the switch first, then the light. It might even just be a loose lamp

My first thought was the rose, since it probably gets very hot (especially if it is enclosed) and might have been altered at some stage to have the fan connected (unless there is a JB above the ceiling). I was thinking of a loose terminal, or posibly heat-induced cracking.

Thanks for the replies and advice. I ended up taking the fitting out of the ceiling and it turns out it is the bulb. It was probably on its way out.
