just thought i'd update this topic.
sparky spured off the immersion heater and did what a lot have said is bad practise.
i told the customer that i wasn't going to wire it as i had been told that it was bad pratise to do it the way i was going to "off the immersion heater" but they didn't question the sparky doing it.
