Adam, you're a clever lad, we all like you a lot and one day you'll be a top spark, but, if you get into the domestic field you will come to loath lights (and showers) and daily curse their designers and the idiots that fitted them. If this wasn't a recurrent problem I wouldn't be entertaining the idea of bringing back a wiring method from a previous age.
