We have been advised by BCO to insulate a single skin outhouse up to current standards by adding 100mm insulation and board/skim.
This will be done first by putting a breathable membrane against the wall held in place by 2x2 tanalised battens at 400mm centres. Then with 50mm Kingspan insulation in between.
This will be followed with 2x2 cross battened and another 50mm insulation, finally 12.5mm plasterboard and skim.
BCO suggests that no VCL is needed, is this true? I always thought one was needed behind the plasterboard.
Secondly how do we finish the plasterboard/insulation around a window and door to prevent cold bridging. Both window and door sit in the middle of the single skin of brick so there will be a few cm on the internal side potentially exposed to cold bridging.
