Skirting board...

At the top of the stairs where the carpet is folded back, was there a step up to another level?

It's pretty frustrating when people are limiting with the details. Why can't you pull the carpet back, expose the 'step' / threshold plus missing skirting area plus the floor under the carpet and post a full and comprehensive photo? Then we can all see what you have currently. Surely based upon all of the questions, you can tell that we're all struggling to comment or advise because we can't work out what's going on? Perhaps also a pic of what it was like when it was a door as well?

Ive blocked a door up and plastered it at the top of the stairs, how would you end the skirting board? As you will see the end as you walk up the stairs....

Would you 90 it down at the end or do one of them fancy end stop doo dahs

So a door threshold which should have been cut off or removed?
+1 for the first type of skirting board finish. The 45 mitre joint doesn’t look that great imo.
